Mobile Recreation Staff (Summer)

  BGC East Scarborough is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual who is committed to the principles and practices of the Club. We are currently recruiting for a highly skilled and dynamic individual to join our team of multi-disciplinary staff with a real opportunity to make a difference in the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Youth Mobile Recreation program provides social recreation opportunities to “at-risk’ youth in East Scarborough communities that are lacking access to recreational program and services. The Mobilizer is equipped with ramps for inline skating and skateboarding, equipment for sports and recreation and variety of video games. Major responsibilities include but not limited to:

•  Plan and implement age appropriate recreational and social activities for participants 
•  Plan and facilitate safety procedures for the skateboarding participants 
•  Provide opportunities for children to be challenged physically, cognitively and emotionally in a positive supporting environment by using effective program planning methods.
•   Responsible for recording daily program attendance 
•  Assist in the set-up, delivery and clean-up of program areas 
•  Actively participate in training, planning sessions, and program evaluation.
•   Be an active participant in the planning and implementation of programs 
•  Ensure program safety and supervision of participants at all times by strictly following guidelines and procedures 
•  Maintain supplies, program equipment and facility

QUALIFICATIONS  

•  Individuals who are enthusiastic, energetic with creative program planning skills
•  Genuine interest in working with children between the ages of 6-18years 
•  Strong leadership and programming skills.
•  Experience working or volunteering with children and/or youth   
•  Strong time management and organizational skills 
•  Knowledge of skateboard safety procedures 
•  Able to lift and arrange equipment’s (up to 80 lbs.) in designated spots ensuring participants safety 
•  CPR/First Aid and High Five Certification or willing to obtain certification prior to employment 
•  Valid Ontario driver's license/or F class is an asset 
•  Legally eligible to work in Canada

Skill Development Opportunities

•  First Aid Certification and HIGH FIVE Certification (Principles of Healthy Child Development) Development of program planning skills 
• Opportunities to practice positive role modeling and supervision of volunteers/junior leaders, with support from full time staff
•  Develop “soft skills” (punctuality, appropriate dress, communication skills etc)
•  Opportunity to develop skills required when working in a team environment 
• Opportunity to develop customer service skills (greeting parents)
•  Overall goal of increasing the student’s employability skills for the future
