The Counsellor, Day Camp - Recreation works as a member of the Children and Early Teens 

multidisciplinary team, to assist in planning and facilitating highly engaging learning opportunities for school aged children. The purpose of this position is to ensure that there is organization, control and safety within 

the program. At the same time creating a therapeutic environment that encourages social interaction and 

support through the different stages of child development. The lead staff is responsible for following and 

implementing the code of conduct/ethics. Translate the HIGH FIVE Principles into actions that impact 

directly on healthy development of children. Leaders must be prepared and capable of enduring the HIGH 

FIVE Design Guidelines and Principles. They need to be a caring adult that allows for structured and 

unstructured play and provides opportunities for children to have a voice and participate fully.


RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan activities that fit the daily schedule and make sure supplies are available

• Plan, implement and evaluate program activities along with team members on a daily basis

• Practice health and safety procedures along with behaviour management techniques

• Model emotional maturity, respect and empathy with participants, staff and caregivers

• Monitor the safety and care of each participant

• Adhere to and enforce Personal Protective Equipment use in program spaces

• Prepare and distribute the planned snack for the day

• Clean and sanitize surfaces and program equipment as needed according to our Covid response

measures outlined/sanctioned by Toronto Public Health

• Complete attendance sheets and make sure they are stored securely at the end of the day

• Submit statistics, timesheets and volunteer attendance on a regular basis

• Perform data entry duties including daily activity reports, program plans, weekly supply, equipment

and snack order forms and incident/serious occurrence forms

• Attend monthly Lead Staff Meetings


QUALIFICATIONS

Key Qualifications and Assets

• Diploma or degree in a child and/or youth focused discipline

• Two or three years of experience working with children and/or youth

• Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers

• Standard First Aid and CPR+AED - Instructor Certification Preferred

• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development Certified

• Food handlers Certificate

• Leadership, critical thinking and problem-solving Skills

• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and a collaborative workstyle

Demonstrates group leadership and positive behaviour management

• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point)

• Program planning, development and facilitation skills
